Keeping Well During Lockdown: Stay at Home Health Tips

Keeping well during a lockdown or lockdown drill is a challenge for many people. If you are confined to your home, you may not have access to the same resources you would if you could go to a healthcare facility. You most likely will not be able to go to the pharmacy or a laboratory facility. You may not be able to go to a doctor’s office.

However, there are many things that you can do to keep your health in good shape during the lockdown. Keep yourself well during lockdown with the following tips:

  • Practice healthy eating at home. Healthy eating at home is one of the tips to stay healthy during a pandemic. You can eat several foods to help boost your immune system and reduce your risk of getting sick. Try adding a few more fresh vegetables and fruits into your daily meals. Your body needs vitamins and nutrients in order to function properly. A balanced diet can help you stay at your best.
  • Practice good hygiene. First of all, clean hands reduce the risk of transmitting the virus to the mouth and nose. It may even stop the virus from developing. Before cooking, make sure you wash your hands with soap and running water and dry them with a clean cloth. Do not use your hands to rub your face and eyes.
  • Drink less alcohol. The government has made a bold statement on lowering alcohol consumption, and the first step is to make a plan. Firstly, you need to make a plan: the main goal is to find alcohol-free days. Alcohol is very unhealthy and can affect your health. Try to find other ways to unwind and have more alcohol-free days.
  • Be proactive – exercise even at home. It’s tough to get to the gym during a pandemic, there are too many people inside, and you have to wait in long lines to get a spot. You can’t even get inside since the gym has limited space. That’s why we advocate exercising at home. With a few tips, you can exercise at home and get a good workout. There are many ways to work out at home, and you don’t need a lot of equipment, just some determination, and creativity.
  • Stay healthy and hydrated. It is said that a glass of water is better than a cup of coffee if you are feeling sleepy. It is said that a swig of water is better than a handful of aspirin if you have a headache. It is said that a glass of water is better than a cigarette if you want to quit smoking. It is said that a glass of water is better than a chocolate bar if you are feeling sad. It is said that water can boost your energy levels and increase your productivity. Water can also help you lose weight, lower your cholesterol, and reduce your heart attack and stroke risk.
  • Feel the sun -get that vitamin D. Vitamin D is an essential part of staying healthy, and one of the easiest ways to get it is through sun exposure. The sun’s rays boost vitamin D by helping the body produce an active form of it. If you are worried that exposing yourself to the sun is unhealthy, know that it is actually the opposite. The sun’s rays also help to fight cancer, fatigue, depression, and many other ailments. So go ahead and enjoy the sun—just be sure to do so safely.
  • Prioritize getting quality sleep. When the outbreak started, you should have stocked up on food, water, and other essentials, but one thing you may not have thought about was sleep. Sleep? Didn’t you just read that sleep is overrated? Well, no. Sleep is really important. Research shows that sleep deprivation can have serious repercussions on your health. Sleep deprivation can contribute to heart problems, stroke, depression, and more.
  • No one is too old to play games. A pandemic is on the way, and you can’t be too careful. In this new world, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Luckily, there are ways to stay on your toes and still relax. Playing games is one of them. The variety of mobile games that are available today means you can find something to suit your mood, whether it’s an absorbing puzzle game or a heart-pounding action game.

Lastly is practice self-care.  This means taking care of your mental health as well as your physical health.  It also means practicing mindfulness, which is the ability to stay present. It’s not about thinking about what’s happening right now; it’s about being completely in the moment. And believe it or not, you can practice mindfulness anytime and anywhere.
